Ko wai tō ingoa? What's in a name?



As Christianity spread in Aotearoa- many Maori started using "Christian" names. Tohu Kakahi used the names Hone (John) and Hemi (James). Te Whiti used the name Erueti or Edward. (but later refused to use this name).

Here are a list of common Maori "Christian" or first names.Look at the list and see if you can work out the names in English. Try using the Maori online dictionary if you want to check.
